Abstract

This study examined the relationships between parents and teachers perception of criteria for success and adolescent goal orientations and intrinsic motivation in physical education. The participants were 975 adolescents from 13 to 18 years of age, who completed the Spanish adaptation of the following instruments: the IMI, TEOSQ and a measure of adolescents perception of parents and teachers criteria for success in the physical education context. The data were analysed through Structural Equation Modelling (SEM). The results confirmed that parents and teachers have a direct effect on adolescents intrinsic motivation within the physical education context and indirect effects through students own goal orientations.
