Psychometric properties of the sports identity scale in the Mexican context

Abstract

Sports identity refers to th degree to wich person identifies with his role as an athlete, as well as the level of importance, strength or intensity, and exclusivity that are associated with thar role, which is maintained bye the athlete and submitted environmental influences. The aim of the present study was to analyzethe psychometric propieties of the Athletic Identity Measurement Scale for validation to the Mexican context. The results show appropriate characteristics of Spor Identity Scale. Factor analysis showed a three-factor structure that explained 59% of variance, in line with multidimensional models propose. The model shows adequate fit index, and appropriate correlation between items and sub-scales.
