Relationship between moods states and performance in malevolleyball of high level
Abstract
This paper presents an ex post facto study. The aim was to analyze the relationship between moods states and sports performance in a team of twelve male players, category sub-20, during the Volleyball World Championship celebrated in Brazil-2011. The instrument Profile of Moods States (POMS) was used for the measurement of moods, and the sports performance was measured using two instruments: on the one hand, a scale of perception of coaches about the sports performance of his players and, on the other hand, the Data Volley System software. Data were analyzed by descriptive sta- tistics and nonparametric inferential statistics. Participants showed high vigor, moderate tension, low cholera, and minimal level in both fatigue and de- pression. The paper explains the significant relationships between the variables. It is noted that, when the team lost a match that had as consequence the impossibility of winning a medal, the moods of the players changed: they felt less tension and vigor and more depression and fatigue.
