The image of basketball at the sports press (1979-2010)

The objective of this study is to analyze the reflection in the sports press of the successes of the Men's and Women's Teams Absolute Basketball and if the successes involve constant monitoring on the pages of newspapers specialized from 1979 to 2010. The categories studied are: a) the year; b) the gender of the main characters; c) the headlines: the inclusion of speech act in the title and the inclusion of a proper name; and d) the topics. We analyzed 9,716 basketball news. The most significant results indicated that: a) increased leadership of men; b) the low presence of women in the headlines of information; and c) the near absence of female idols in the sports press.
